Leather Briefcases - Practicality And Elegance!

Leather briefcases have undergone a fundamental change over recent years. They were designed to carry papers and documents often with zippered closures for extra security as well as outside pockets for easy access. They were grand, they worked well, looked great and for years they have been by the side of professionals and businessmen and women alike. The big change has come about because our work habits have changed. We no longer carry mountains of documents around with us, we more than likely have just a few paper items and our laptop. Smart briefcases now have a special padded compartment for the laptop.

It is possible of course to just carry a bag designed specifically for your laptop, but if you have paperwork as well, these bags are usually not rigid enough to keep your papers nice and flat. You also have the option of carrying both, but that is cumbersome, particularly if you are catching public transport or an airplane. It is hard enough at times looking after one briefcase, let alone two bags of similar size. Combining the two was obviously a sensible choice to make. The new laptop briefcases ensure that your documents arrive in perfect condition, and your laptop is safe and secure.

Leather briefcases are still a very personal item. The type of briefcase you own will say a lot about the type of person you are. Yes, many a man or woman has been judged by the type they carry, so to make a good impression it had best be made of leather. It shouldn't really matter, should it? But it does. The corporate world is quick to judge, and one made of vinyl or a man made fibre just doesn't cut it when you are dealing with these types of people. A good leather briefcase won't let you down though, it will be your trusted business partner for many years to come and is very much worth the investment.

Because leather briefcases can set you back quite a few dollars, it makes sense to look around and check prices both online and offline. You may be lucky enough to pick one up on sale thus saving a considerable amount of dollars. For reasonable quality your starting price will be around $200, and from there they quite happily work their way up to $500 and higher. Italian leather briefcases will more than likely top the price range but they are in a league all of their own. You really do get what you pay for when purchasing a briefcase. The more expensive the item, the more it will be apparent on the detail and finish.

Good leather requires very little looking after, mainly because it is a natural product. Leather briefcases are usually made of thick cowhide which will be treated to resist water and scratches. As with all good leather the patina just keeps getting better with age. If spills do occur, it is best to soak them up as soon as possible as if left over an extended period of time they will be absorbed. If necessary you are able to clean them with clear, lukewarm water to wipe the spill and then allow to air dry. All leather briefcases will however be purchased with care instructions. Sometimes you may be advised to clean and condition the leather once in a while with special cleaning products.
