Leather Tool Bag In Your Service!

The leather tool bag is an essential item for the tradesman or professional who needs to carry a functional work accessory to store his tools of trade. Carpenters for example would find it very difficult to work without using a tool bag to carry things like their hammer, nails, pliers etc. The motor-bike enthusiast on the other hand, uses tool bags that have been specifically designed to fit on the motor cycle which provides extra storage facilities. In both instances, leather is the material that is ideally suited for the tradesman and professional type bags, and for the motorcycle accessories.

Tradesmen's needs are very specific. They need to be able to carry their tools safely without fear of them slipping out and causing injury. They also need to be able to access them conveniently. Certain tools will also cause a lot of friction within their carrier and leather is often the only material that can safely deal with this type of problem. These types of bags are also made using the strongest of glues and stitching. It is not unusual for manufacturers of these tool bags to claim that they are so strong they will see an apprentice right through to his retirement years.

The leather that goes into the making of these specialized types of bags is always heavy-duty and rugged, such as buffalo hide. They are designed to take a lot of hard wear and tear and after a while the outside may not be recognizable but they will still be performing well. The bags are made for right or left-handed use, and they are designed to hold the tools that are usually accessed with the right hand (for a right-handed person), and so will be worn on that side of the body. Naturally for the left-handed person they will be worn on the left side of the body. Because leather is a natural product, it will actually mold to the body as it becomes worn in, becoming more comfortable and functional. If you have ever seen a carpenter's tool bag that has obviously been around for a few years you will notice how well it fits into the shape of the body.

The leather tool bag is not strictly an essential item for the motorcyclist, however it does provide a safe carrying place for all those things that don't sit comfortably in pockets, particularly for long trips, such as keys, wallets and cell phone. Most bags of this sort will carry much more than this but these are usually the first things that will be put in them for safe keeping. There are many different shapes and sizes and they are designed to be attached by their straps to almost any place on the bike.

Because the leather is custom tanned to make these specialized tool bags, they will more than likely require very little maintenance. If the tradesman spills mud or concrete on his then it is important to remove it with a damp cloth before it dries, as it can draw the natural oils from the leather. If the tool bags need cleaning then using a good leather cleaner is recommended followed by a light application of a non-oily leather conditioner. Applications of oil should be avoided as it can in time cause the stitching to perish. Cleaning should only need to be carried out about once a year.
